Dorothy: Look, I hate to be an alarmist, but what if the baby or the mother needs more than Muzak and throw pillows?
Tamara: You're a meat eater, aren't you? [woman screams] Sounds like there's a mommy in the making.
Rose: Sounds like there's a mommy on fire.

Martin: No, Rose. The Lord Almighty. All these years of wondering and-and hurting. But now, by His bringing us together, I believe He's forgiven me.
Rose: My mother, did you love her?
Martin: Yes, very, very much. But then the abbot found out.
Rose: Bud Abbott?
Martin: Sure'd be nice if you got one of these right. No, Rose, the abbot. He told me I had to choose between the church and your mother. I chose God. I think I have His forgiveness. Now, more than anything, I'd like your forgiveness.
Rose: I don't know. Lime Jell-O with pears or fresh lemon meringue pie?
Martin: Pie.
Rose: We don't have any. We never did. Now we're even.

Rose: So what should I do?
Blanche: Say something to her. Tell her you have to get something off your chest and put your foot down. That girl thinks only of herself.
Rose: You're right. Put my foot down. Get it off my chest.
Dorothy: Hi, Rose. Where you goin'?
Rose: Dorothy, I'm going to get something off my foot.
Dorothy: Good for you, Rose. Careful of the carpet.

Miles: What about all those other great things you two did? Camping, tennis, boating?
Rose: All the time. Well, maybe only once. See, Charlie had this unnatural fear.
Miles: Of what?
Rose: Camping, tennis, boating.
Miles: Rose, don't you see? You're remembering the way it never was. Then you're expecting me to compete with it.
Rose: Hey, that's not true.
Miles: Listen, Rose, I can't fight a ghost. Gee, Charlie's not only dead, he's much younger. Look, Rose, you know I'm nuts about you, but I shouldn't have to prove it by jumping out of an airplane. I'm- I'm over 60.
Rose: Well, so is Paul Newman, and he still races cars.
Miles: I don't want to be compared with Charlie, and I sure as hell don't want to be compared with Paul Newman. Although I gotta tell you, I do make a better salad dressing. In fact, I don't want to be compared with anybody. I'm the best me there is, and that should be enough.
Rose: It is. Why, I don't know why I put you through all this. Now that I think of it, I guess there were times that Charlie was a little boring. Not that I loved him any less.
Miles: That's all I ask, Rose, that you love me even when I'm boring.

Instructor: OK, it's time to take off.
Rose: Let's go home.
Miles: OK. Rose, uh you say Charlie never did this?
Rose: I think he was scared.
Miles: He was, huh? [chuckles] OK, Rose, come on. Let's go for it.
Rose: I bet if Charlie had jumped, he'd have thrown in a few somersaults.
Miles: Don't push it, Rose.

Rose: Miles, I thought you were grading papers.
Miles: No, I wasn't. I lied.
Rose: Oh, my God. What were you grading?

Rose: [on the phone] I understand, dear, but we're not dating.
Blanche: Is that the woman who threatened you with the lobster? Why are you talking to her?
Rose: She keeps calling. What should I do?
Blanche: I'll get you off that phone. [loudly] Rose, I've fallen and can't get up. Help me!
Rose: I can't help you right now. I'm on the phone.

Rose: I wish I could tell you, but I really don't know anything about him anymore. When I knew him, he was a professor at a college.
Karl: That's hard to believe.
Rose: Well, that's one of the few places they have professors.

Rose: Listen, check with me later about the weekend. I just want to be sure I'm ready, and that it's right.
Karl: I'll give you a ring.
Rose: I can't accept jewelry.
Karl: I mean, I'll call you soon. I mean, I'll call you, Rose, soon. And the phone will ring.

Miles: Rose. Rose, it's me.
Rose: Mi- Miles? I beg your pardon. I'm sure Blanche will be out any minute.
Miles: No, Rose, Rose, it's me.
Rose: Miles?
Miles: I've come back, Rose. I had to see you.
Rose: But you've changed.
Miles: Well, I'm Amish, Rose. That's my new identity in the Witness Protection Program. See, I'm an Amish man. I live on an Amish farm. I carry wood, I dig holes and I milk things. And to be frank it sucks.
