‘Everybody Hates Baseball’

Chris wants to skip going to a baseball game with Julius so he can see a movie with Tasha. Meanwhile, Rochelle is uneasy when her hairdresser Vanessa goes on a date with her brother Michael.

Drew: Hey, Dad? Can we eat whatever we want at the game?
Julius: Yeah.
Adult Chris: [v.o.] As long as it costs less than $2.00.
Drew: I'm going to get two hot dogs, cotton candy, and peanuts...

Julius: Chris, what you gonna eat?
Adult Chris: [v.o.] My words?
Chris: Nothing. Because I'm not going to the game.
Julius: What do you mean?
Chris: Well, Tasha asked me if I wanted to go to the movies on Saturday, and I said "yes."
Adult Chris: [v.o.] My father never really showed his feelings, but when he was hurt, he'd always say the same thing.
Julius: Cool.
Chris: Cool.
Adult Chris: [v.o.] That's not cool, that's cold.

Rochelle: You got a bagel?
Risky: Oh, sure, sure. Oat, uh, honey...
Rochelle: Thanks.

Chris: Dad?
Julius: Yeah?
Chris: Can I go to the Mets game with you and Drew?
Julius: What happened to your movie?
Chris: Nothing. I'd just rather go to the game.
Julius: Okay... Cool.
Chris: Cool.
Adult Chris: [v.o.] For the first time, "cool" actually meant "cool."

Ticket Clerk: Hold on. You can't use these.
Julius: Why not?
Ticket Clerk: Why not? What do you think, I can't read?
Julius: What are you talking about?
Ticket Clerk: These are from last year's game.
Julius: Let me see those. April, 1984?
Ticket Clerk: Otherwise known as last year.
Julius: I'm going to kill your uncle.

Rochelle: Well, you gave me your letter for Billy Ocean, and I lost it in my purse, and I never mailed it.
Tonya: So I'm not getting my Billy Ocean picture.
Rochelle: No, I'm sorry, baby.
Tonya: Do you still have the letter?
Rochelle: Yeah, why?
Tonya: Can I have it?
Rochelle: Oh... here.
Tonya: Thanks.
Rochelle: W-wait, wait, wait where you going?
Tonya: I'm going to go mail this letter so I can get my picture of Billy Ocean.
Adult Chris: [v.o.] My mother always did the best for us that she could, even if it didn't make a bit of sense.

Adult Chris: [v.o.] When I was a kid, I never got to hang out with my dad that much. But not going to a baseball game turned out to be one of the best days ever.
Julius: You okay?
Chris & Drew: Yeah.
Julius: You need anything?
Drew: Can I have a beer?
Julius: No.
