‘Li'l Sister Don't Cha’

Season 2, Episode 2 -  Aired October 13, 1983

With Carla out on maternity leave, her innocent younger sister, Annette, fills in at the bar. Cliff falls head over heels for her, but it turns out she's not as innocent as she seems.

Quote from Norm

Coach: Nice kid, that Annette.
Sam: Yeah, she is, Coach.
Cliff: Yeah, she's cute too.
Norm: Cute?
Coach: You like her there, Cliffo?
Cliff: I don't know. I just said she was cute.
Norm: Are you gonna ask her out?
Cliff: No.
Tom: You haven't had a date in months.
Cliff: Oh, there's a simple explanation for that that you riffraffs probably wouldn't understand. I have impossibly high standards for a woman.
Norm: Yeah. She has to like you, right?

Quote from Cliff

Cliff: Excuse me. I just had a sudden thought here. If you're not doing anything and you have the time, maybe we could go out sometime and do something together if you want.
Annette: Really? That sounds nice.
Cliff: Oh, well, I'd better warn you, though. I'm going on a special assignment for the department. I've got no right to ask you to wait for me.
Annette: Here's my phone number in case you make it.
Cliff: Great. Well, Auf Wiedersehen.
Annette: Bye.

Quote from Sam

Annette: Did I do something wrong?
Sam: Oh, no, no. I just wanted a little talk with you. See, I know you haven't worked in bars before and I just wanted to explain how men behave in bars. They, uh... Well, they have a few drinks, they get a little high and then they get carried away around a beautiful new waitress. And, well, does this make any sense to you? Why don't you we sit down here?
[As Sam sits down the couch armrest, Annette ignores the available chair and sits beside him]
Sam: See, I thought maybe that...
[Annette jumps on Sam and pushes him back onto the couch]
Annette: Take me, take me!
Coach: [enters] Sam, telephone call. Oh, I'll just tell them you're breaking in a new waitress.
Sam: No! Coach!

Quote from Norm

Norm: That was Cliff. He says he's feeling a lot better and he's coming in today.
Tom: What happened to him anyway?
Norm: Well, he was doing his test drive a few days ago. He stepped out of the car, into a pothole, smashed up his leg, but he finished his route in pain.
Paul: He figured those 1974 Christmas cards couldn't wait another day, huh?

Quote from Sam

Sam: Uh, Annette? You're late again.
Annette: I'm sorry, Sam. Would you like to take me into your office and scold me?
Sam: No, no, no. No. Just maybe don't do it again.
Annette: I won't.

Quote from Sam

Annette: Oh, that was nice. I'm glad I got to see the babies.
Sam: You mean you haven't been over there yet?
Annette: Well, I got as far as the hospital, but I met the chief surgeon in the parking lot and we split a six-pack in his van. What a nice fellow.

Quote from Norm

Cliff: So, who wants to see it?
Norm: No, not me. I can't stand that stuff.
Cliff: Come on.
Norm: I can't even eat an open-faced sandwich.

Quote from Cliff

Cliff: Yeah, I had some healing hands to help me.
Coach: You devil!
Cliff: Yeah, some incredible, beautiful hands.
Sam: Oh, wait a minute here. Sounds like the man's been bitten by the love bug.
Norm: Oh, Cliffy, you've found somebody?
Cliff: Well-
Sam: He did, he did.
Cliff: All right, all right. I never thought I was the kind of guy to fall head over heels.
Diane: Oh, God. It isn't Annette, is it?
Cliff: Well, yeah.
Diane: Oh... I'm so happy for you.
Cliff: Thank you, Diane. It's great. She doesn't know it yet, but I'm gonna ask for her hand.
Sam: Annette?
Cliff: Yeah, isn't it something, Sammy? Me and Carla's sweet little sister. Oh, it's like fate, isn't it? Ooh, there she is.

Quote from Diane

Norm: I know Cliff. He's a sweet guy. If anybody can change this Annette babe, he's the one.
Diane: Well, maybe you're right, Norman. I guess we've been pretty cynical. Who are we to judge? Maybe Annette really loves Cliff. Hey, face it. Love can be a rebirth for any man and woman.
Sam: Yeah, I feel better about that.
Diane: Wasn't it Dante who said- [Coach, Sam and Norm walk away]

Quote from Norm

Diane: Annette, would you get me a soda?
Annette: Certainly.
Diane: That Cliff is really something special, huh?
Annette: Which one's Cliff?
[Diane, Sam, Coach and Norm reconvene]
Norm: Let me tell him. I'm his best friend. Cliff, talk to you in the back room a moment?
Cliff: Uh, yeah, sure, Norm.
Sam: You sure about this, Norm? I've seen this kind of thing destroy relationships.
Norm: He should hear about this from someone who cares about him and he cares about.
