‘The Actor’

Season 2, Episode 14 - Aired January 17, 1987

When a famous TV actor comes to town for a local theatre production, he starts clandestine relationships with Dorothy, Blanche and Rose.

Quote from Dorothy

Rose: Patrick. What are you doing here? Dorothy, what are you doing on the floor?
Dorothy: Um... I dropped a contact.
Rose: You expect me to believe that? You don't wear contacts.
Patrick Vaughn: She dropped my contact. You see, I happened to run into Dorothy downtown and I mentioned to her that I'd run out of contact solution and she said she had plenty of it here at the house, because she doesn't wear them. So, here we are.
Rose: Oh, OK.
Dorothy: Here it is. I found it.
Patrick Vaughn: You found what?
Dorothy: The lens. Which I'm now going to rinse out in the solution we have too much of.

Quote from Rose

Patrick Vaughn: Thank goodness you're here. I made up that ridiculous explanation hoping I'd run into you. So, you live here too?
Rose: Yes. But why would you ask me if I live here if...?
Patrick Vaughn: Oh, kiss me, Rose.
Rose: Go easy, Patrick. It's not a toy.
Patrick Vaughn: Well, I have to go, but we're still on for tonight?
Rose: You betcha.
Patrick Vaughn: Same rendezvous as last night.
Rose: 10:45, you'll pull your car up behind the theatre and leave the trunk open.
Patrick Vaughn: Yes.

Quote from Dorothy

Blanche: Oh, Patrick, you're leaving so soon?
Patrick Vaughn: I'm afraid so.
Dorothy & Blanche: I'll see you tonight.
Dorothy: At the theatre.
Blanche: Yes. Just at the theatre.
Patrick Vaughn: Well, I must take my leave.
Dorothy: Don't leave your lens.
Patrick Vaughn: Oh, my lens. [walks into the front door] Oh, I think maybe I'd better put it in now. [mimes taking a lens out of the glass and putting it in his eye] There, that's better. Farewell.
Dorothy: God, he's good.

Quote from Dorothy

Stage Manager: Mr Vaughn. Mr Vaughn. Did you hear about the cast change? Ronald Bromberg has the flu. He can't play the sheriff.
Patrick Vaughn: Well, who can take over the part?
Dorothy: [in a sheriff's costume] Hello.
Stage Manager: She's the only one who fits into the costume.

Quote from Blanche

Rose: Isn't he the greatest?
Blanche: Yeah, the great ones always throw in a back rub.
Rose: What?
Phyllis Hammerow: Have either of you seen Patrick?
Blanche: Yes, he's off rehearsing lines.
Rose: What do you want him for?
Phyllis Hammerow: I want to give him this.
Blanche: I'll give it to him.
Phyllis Hammerow: Believe me, he'd rather get it from me. He's been getting it from me all week.
Rose: What?
Phyllis Hammerow: Patrick swore me to secrecy, but I just have to tell someone. We're madly in love. We've been seeing each other ever since he got into town. Have a good show.
Rose: Phyllis is such a liar.
Blanche: Oh, she sure is. Since Patrick got into town, he's been...
Blanche & Rose: seeing me.

Quote from Blanche

Blanche: Patrick swore to me that I was the only woman in his life.
Rose: He told me the same thing.
Blanche: You liar.
Rose: He said he was gonna tell everybody about us. He said when the time was right, he was gonna rent a plane and-
Blanche: Write it in the sky?
Rose: Yes.
Blanche: You, sir, are a dirt bag. Oh, I'm sorry. It must be the heat.

Quote from Dorothy

Dorothy: Well, I guess you know how we all feel. So why don't you just get out of our sight, get out of our lives and get out of our town right now?
[As Patrick walks off stage, the theatre audience applauds. The actors all take a bow.]

Quote from Blanche

Patrick Vaughn: Evening, Sheriff.
Dorothy: Evening, Biff. What you doing here?
Patrick Vaughn: The usual. Just drifting.
Blanche: Oh, I just cannot believe you would stab me in the back.
Rose: Me? You're the backstabber.
[The other actors all shush Blanche and Rose]
Blanche: Excuse us.
