‘Mr. Monk Goes to a Fashion Show’

Season 4, Episode 10 - Aired January 13, 2006

After Monk notices that his favorite shirt inspector is no longer as fastidious as she once was, he learns that her son has been jailed for the death of a supermodel.

Quote from Natalie

Lieutenant Disher: Monk.
Adrian Monk: What?
Lieutenant Disher: They're about to take the body away. You wanna come have a look?
Adrian Monk: I'll be right there. I've only got 5 shirts left. What what if I spill something? What if one rips? They're like an endangered species.
Lieutenant Disher: [to Stottlemeyer] He's obsessing over shirts.
Natalie: Put your shirts in the dryer.
Adrian Monk: Yeah.
Natalie: Close the door. See if they mate.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Captain Stottlemeyer: Hey, Monk.
Adrian Monk: What?
Captain Stottlemeyer: What do you think?
Adrian Monk: About what?
Captain Stottlemeyer: About the dead guy in the kitchen.
Adrian Monk: Oh, yeah, sorry. I was thinking about something else.
Natalie: He's worried about the woman who inspects his shirts.
Adrian Monk: I've been to 3 different stores. Captain, the stitching, it's... It's all wrong. The collars are crooked.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Natalie: Okay, Captain, just please fill us in.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Okay, they're both classical musicians. They got married about 6 months ago.
Adrian Monk: It's just not like her.
Captain Stottlemeyer: The wife was down at the rehearsal studio practicing her cello. She comes home 3:30, she finds her husband dead on the kitchen floor. Room temperature, stabbed 3 times.
Adrian Monk: She's lying. She wasn't practicing. You can't play the cello wearing a long skirt like that. You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna find inspector 8. I'm gonna track her down. Shirt factory's in Rockaway. That's two hours from here.
Lieutenant Disher: I think he's right.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Yeah, take her downtown. Hey, Monk. Thank you.
Adrian Monk: For what?
Captain Stottlemeyer: You solved the case.
Adrian Monk: Oh, yeah, sure. If she is in trouble, maybe I can help her.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: That's number 4. He's a hack. He makes inspector number 10 look like inspector number 6. Hi. 6. There she is. There she is. That's her. That's number 8.
Natalie: Well, are you gonna ask her out?
Adrian Monk: No, I'm just... I'm nervous.
Natalie: Okay, go on. Go on.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: How did this happen? How do you talk me into these things?
Natalie: Because it's the right thing to do.
Adrian Monk: Have you read this? Look, there are witnesses. There's DNA evidence. Natalie, he did it. There's no doubt about it.
Natalie: Well, it doesn't hurt to meet him.
Adrian Monk: If I go back to Maria and tell her that her son is guilty, she'll completely fall apart which will be worse because I am down to 5 shirts.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Pablo Ortiz: How do you know my mother?
Adrian Monk: From her work at the factory. I'm a big fan.
Pablo Ortiz: A fan?

Quote from Adrian Monk

Natalie: Pablo, your mother asked that we look into your case. We'd like to hear your side.
Pablo Ortiz: I did not kill Clea Vance. That is my side. I never met her. I never see her. There was a fashion show at a big Hotel. I was a deliver boy. I deliver some clothes there, then I go home. And the next day, I'm arrested. Es una pesadilla. It is a nightmare.
Adrian Monk: Pablo, your DNA was all over the victim. Your blood, your hair. How do you explain that?
Pablo Ortiz: I don't know. It's a mistake. A misunderstanding.
Adrian Monk: Clea Vance had a roommate who testified that Clea was afraid of you. She said that you were stalking her. Look. It says right here. Pablo Ortiz was obsessed with her. You see that? Right there.
Pablo Ortiz: [nods] I see it.
Adrian Monk: You're lying, Pablo. It doesn't say that. You can't read English, can you?
Pablo Ortiz: No, sir. I was raised in Mexico with my father. I have been here 3 years only and I can speak English but I cannot read.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Natalie: What is it?
Adrian Monk: It's the emergency exit.
Natalie: Yeah?
Adrian Monk: Well, the killer didn't use it. According to this floor plan, he would've had to go all the way around back through the kitchen. It was crowded. It was risky. Somebody could've seen him.
Natalie: Yeah, but he wouldn't use it. The alarm would sound.
Adrian Monk: Exactly. Whoever killed this woman read that sign.
Natalie: And Pablo can't read. Do you think he's innocent? You do, don't you?

Quote from Adrian Monk

Natalie: So these are her shoes?
Gordo: That's right. Yeah, you see this blood? And this hair and these fibers. They all belonged to Pablo Ortiz. It's a slam dunk.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Yeah, I don't see any wiggle room here, do you?
Gordo: No, we got it right, man. People lie. People lie all the time. But DNA? It never lies.
Adrian Monk: I'm thinking... I'm thinking maybe he's not the guy.

Quote from Captain Stottlemeyer

Captain Stottlemeyer: Look, Monk, I'd follow you anywhere, but I've got 4 cases on my plate right now. But you have fun. Knock yourself out. Thanks, Gordo.
Lieutenant Disher: See you at the party.
Adrian Monk: Here's the statement from that Natasia Zorel. She was the victim's roommate. Let's start with her.
Lieutenant Disher: Did you just say you were gonna go and talk to Natasia Zorel?
Captain Stottlemeyer: The supermodel.
Adrian Monk: [Disher holds up a magazine] Is that her?
Lieutenant Disher: You know, actually, I've got the rest of the day off. I should probably go with you guys.
Captain Stottlemeyer: You know, I think I'll come along too. In the interest of...
Natalie: Justice?
Captain Stottlemeyer: Yeah, justice.
