‘Mr. Monk Fights City Hall’

Season 7, Episode 16 -  Aired February 20, 2009

As Monk protests against the demolition of the parking garage where Trudy was killed, he investigates the disappearance of a councilwoman who helped his cause.

Quote from Lieutenant Disher

George Gionopolis: Anyway, yeah, she never called to cancel. She never showed up. That's all I know.
Adrian Monk: Yeah, maybe she did show up. And maybe you had an altercation. And maybe you hit her. And maybe you killed her.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Maybe we're gonna have to get a search warrant and tear this place apart.
George Gionopolis: You go right ahead and be my guest. Believe me, if I did what you are accusing me of, I wouldn't just leave her body lying around. She would be somewhere where no one would find her. [Disher continues eating his hot dog] She would be gone. Have a good day.
Captain Stottlemeyer: You hear what he said?
Lieutenant Disher: Yeah, some place we'd never find her. Mysterious.
Natalie: Randy, think about it.
Lieutenant Disher: Maybe bury her in some park somewhere. God, I could eat a million of these things.

Maria Schecter: And some sauerkraut. Not too much. That's too much. A little more. Thank you. You're not hungry?
Adrian Monk: No. Uh, no, I'm fine. I ate yesterday.
Al: Three dollars. [Maria looks to Monk]
Adrian Monk: Oh, uh, let me get that. It's no problem.
Al: Thanks a lot.
Adrian Monk: Thank you. It was a "pleasure" seeing you again. I mean, a real "pleasure." The "pleasure" is all mine.
Al: All right, I get it.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Paul Crawford: Can I help you?
Adrian Monk: You're the guy.
Paul Crawford: Pardon me?
Adrian Monk: You killed the councilwoman. You were her sex lover. And you killed her.
Maria Schecter: Oh, my God.
Paul Crawford: Why on earth would I-
Adrian Monk: Why? To shut her up. To save your marriage. You knew you'd never be able to explain a pregnant girlfriend.
Paul Crawford: Pregnant girlfriend? I read the coroner's report, Mr. Monk. Eileen wasn't pregnant.
Adrian Monk: That's right. She wasn't. But you thought she was. The day she disappeared, Lieutenant Disher asked you if Eileen had been drinking. Do you remember what she said? "She wouldn't be drinking now." Why did you phrase it like that? Only one reason. You thought she was pregnant.
Paul Crawford: You don't like the way I phrased an answer? What kind of evidence is that?

Quote from Adrian Monk

Natalie: God, are you okay? You're all over the news. I couldn't believe it.
Adrian Monk: They were gonna tear it down. Look, you gotta help me. You gotta. Come on. Hell, no, we won't go! Hell, no-- Come on.
Natalie: Mr. Monk, I'm not gonna chant with you.
Adrian Monk: You have to, otherwise the "we" part doesn't make any sense.
Natalie: None of this makes any sense. Why didn't you call me?
Adrian Monk: You would have tried to talk me out of it.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: Natalie, I feel this tingling in my chest and in my face.
Natalie: Yeah, you're happy, Mr. Monk.
Adrian Monk: Happy.
Natalie: I can't believe it. You did it.
Adrian Monk: I did it.
Natalie: You just stopped a children's playground from being built, and saved a parking garage.
Adrian Monk: So the system works. Let's get out of here.
Natalie: All right, where's the key?
Adrian Monk: Well, it's not in the sewer. You don't have to worry about that. I'm kidding. It's in the sewer.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Captain Stottlemeyer: Looks like a married couple. Some swimmers found them.
Natalie: Swimmers?
Captain Stottlemeyer: Yeah, you know, the Polar Bear Club? They were stabbed. Two and three times. She got it twice. Monk checks his watch] Detective Monk, are we keeping you from something?
Adrian Monk: City council. They're voting again today.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Right, the parking garage thing. Good luck on that.
Natalie: Mr. Monk, we have plenty of time.
Adrian Monk: We should leave early, though. Just to be safe.
Natalie: It's only a ten-minute drive. Look, look. You can see it from here.
Adrian Monk: We should leave early, just to be sure.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Captain Stottlemeyer: What do you got there, a bracelet?
Adrian Monk: No, it's not a bracelet. It's a strap. See, it's torn. She had a camera. Did you find a camera?
Lieutenant Disher: No.
Adrian Monk: Then he must have taken it. He left her jewelry. You said this guy had a wallet? Was there still money in it?
Lieutenant Disher: Yeah, dollars and euros.
Adrian Monk: I'm thinking they were walking down here last night, to get a view of the skyline. Maybe, see the moonlight on the water. They saw something else.
Captain Stottlemeyer: And they got killed for it.
Natalie: What was it?
Adrian Monk: Must have been pretty terrible. Something inhuman. Something so horrific-- Is that the time? We gotta go, we gotta go. Natalie!
Lieutenant Disher: Wait, we want you to look at some tire tracks.
Adrian Monk: Yeah, take some pictures. Just get a lot of pictures. We gotta go.

Quote from Natalie

Paul Crawford: Adrian Monk. And you must be Natalie. Paul Crawford. San Francisco dispatch.
Adrian Monk: Yeah, hello, excuse me for just one second, sir!
Natalie: So you're a reporter?
Paul Crawford: I am the reporter. I've been following this story. I'm thinking about doing a story on Adrian Monk and his parking garage. "Man versus playground."
Natalie: Yeah, I can see it now, you'd make him out to be a monster.
Paul Crawford: On the contrary, Ms. Teeger, please don't repeat this to anybody, but, uh, I'm on your side. Hope you pull it off.
Natalie: Wow, that's very sympathetic.
Paul Crawford: Lady, sympathy's got nothing to do with it. Parking's a bitch in that neighborhood. Call me.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: You see, the truth is, Harold, I really don't need your vote. I spoke to councilwoman hill over the weekend, and she's on my side now.
Harold Krenshaw: She's switching her vote?
Adrian Monk: Well, that's right. So now the vote is four to three in my favor. And I believe they call that a majority.
Lieutenant Disher: Oh, Monk. Hey, Natalie. Harold, you're all wet. You know, the councilwoman, Eileen Hill, the one you've been talking about?
Adrian Monk: Yeah, yeah. Did something happen?
Lieutenant Disher: We're not sure. We just talked to her sister. She's gone missing.

Quote from Natalie

Natalie: I'm Natalie Teeger, this is Adrian Monk. We're working with the police. We're looking for Councilwoman Hill.
Maria Schecter: You should have called first.
Natalie: I tried. We tried. But you kept putting us on hold, and then...
Maria Schecter: [answers phone] Councilwoman Hill's office, hello? Can I help-- Hello?
Natalie: Hanging up on us.
