‘The Fake-Up’

Season 7, Episode 22 -  Aired May 6, 2020

Beverly gets involved as Adam and Brea's relationship blossoms. Meanwhile, Barry is torn when Lainey comes to town.

Quote from Barry

Barry: But I chose you! Over her!
Ren: What?
Lainey: What?
Barry: I sat down with Erica, and we carefully weighed out the pluses and minuses.
Lainey: She helped you rate us like show ponies?
Barry: I'm not sure that's a real event, but kinda. Point is, Ren won by a nose. Not because you have a better nose. Lainey's got a great nose, too. Someone else talk now!
Ren: There's nothing else to say.
Barry: [sighs] I messed up.
Lainey: You messed up.

Quote from Murray

Adam: Brea Bee? My girlfriend. To what do I owe the pleasure?
Brea: Troubling news, I'm afraid.
Adam: Should we retire to my room for privacy?
Brea: I'm too emotionally raw to not speak my mind right now.
Murray: Hey, if you're gonna be emotionally raw, take it out back.
Beverly: Shh, Murray. This sounds serious.

Quote from Adam

Brea: It's over between us, Adam. [Beverly gasps]
Adam: That is deeply upsetting.
Brea: Please don't make a scene.
Beverly: Fight for her, Adam.
Adam: I will not fight for you!
Brea: Thank you... For respecting my wishes. [Beverly sighs] Goodbye forever. Forever.
Beverly: No.
Brea: Forever.
Beverly: No! Adam, do something! We have to get her back!
Adam: Too late. She's already near the sidewalk. There. She's at the sidewalk.

Quote from Adam

Adam: It wasn't just that.
Beverly: There was someone else?
Adam: That makes sense, I guess.
Beverly: Who?
Adam: Uh... Tony? I don't know his last name, but they call him "The Tiger."
Beverly: Tony the Tiger? The cereal?
Adam: But he's not a lovable cartoon mascot. He's a home wrecker.
Beverly: Murray, are you hearing this? Your son has been dating a strumpet!
Murray: Good for you, Barry.
Beverly: No, Brea is a stone-cold hussy.
Adam: I guess that's what we're saying here. Anyway, toodle-oo.

Quote from Murray

Beverly: Why would Adam and Brea do this to me?
Murray: This has nothing to do with you.
Beverly: [gasps] You're right. I need to confront Brea and find out for myself what happened.
Murray: See? You don't listen, either. That's why this works.

Quote from Adam

Adam: Enough! I gave up Glowie last year! I'm a man now!
Beverly: Adam? I-I don't understand.
Adam: You never do. Brea and I didn't break up. And she isn't dating a cartoon tiger. She's dating me, and we're here to French. I'm just gonna worm my way out of here.
Brea: Sorry. That was not a shot at Glowie.

Quote from Beverly

Beverly: You faked your breakup?
Adam: I had to do something. You're unbearable. Who goes on a date with their son and his girlfriend?
Beverly: I literally don't understand the question.
Adam: Why can't you get that I don't want you anywhere near my relationship? And, oh, my God, why are you crying?
Beverly: I'm sorry. It's just... You were acting so adult and... Spending so much time with Brea. I just thought it was all over.
Adam: What's over?
Beverly: You finally grow up and I'm no longer the most important woman in your life.
Adam: That's a good thing.
Beverly: Not for me. You're my last baby. I'm not ready for this.

Quote from Beverly

Adam: Would you stop? You're my mom. You'll always be in my life.
Beverly: Really? And I'll live with you in a room just off the master suite?
Adam: Please, you got to give me some space. Because if you keep squeezing this hard, you really will lose me.
Beverly: Okay. I can make some concessions. You and Brea can go on a date without your mom tagging along, if that's what you think is normal.
Adam: It is.
Beverly: But no more basement business.
Adam: Don't worry. That room has been ruined for me forever.
Beverly: And once a week, Brea should come to dinner, not because I'm wedging in, but because I really like her.
Adam: I really like her, too. And if we're just saying stuff... You're not so terrible, either.
Beverly: I am your number-one girl!

Quote from Barry

Barry: Can we talk?
Ren: I have nothing to say to you.
Barry: Then I'll go. I want to let you know Lainey's an amazing person who I'll always love.
Ren: Not a great start.
Barry: But here's the thing, she's not you.
Ren: And?
Barry: Aw, crap. In my head, it was a home run and you'd be smooching on me right now.

Quote from Barry

Erica: I got this.
Barry: Erica, what are you doing here?
Erica: Well, I didn't want to be involved, but since I am, at least I can make it right.
Ren: I'm listening.
Erica: When it comes to women, my brother may be the dumbest person in the world.
Barry: And the strongest.
Erica: But he also has the biggest heart, which I know for a fact belongs to you.
Ren: That's sweet. And weird. But that's sort of what I like about Barry.
Barry: Exactly. I'm a lovable oddball who only has eyes for you.
