Quote from Coach

Coach: We're only playing for fun.
Sam: How much fun have you lost?
Coach: About eight grand.
Sam: Eight grand?
Carla: Oh, Coach.
Coach: But wait a minute, that's spread over since last February.

Quote from Norm

Harry: [enters] Hey, Coach.
Coach: Hi, Harry.
Norm: Harry. Harry, here's the 10 bucks I'm gonna owe you in about five minutes.
Harry: Thanks.

Quote from Coach

Harry: That's Eddie the Mole. He's from Phoenix. They call him Mole Man, or Moley. In Philly they call him Sid.
Sam: Sid?
Harry: Philly's a dull town.
Sam: So, what you're saying is he's pretty well-known, huh?
Harry: Any bird-dogger knows him. He runs paper and cubes, mainly in the crib, but sometimes up against the wall. Puts on a straight-up-guy kind of front, and then grinds away slow with coolers and hop toads, real rip and tear kind of stuff.
Sam: Yeah, yeah. That sounds like him.
Harry: It seems to me that he got in trouble with the boys in Vegas last year. He's been keeping a low profile. Could be him. You know, a lot of those guys lay low by making small money off dumb saps.
Coach: So where do I come in?

Quote from Carla

Diane: Sam, excuse me. Where do you keep the measuring spoons?
Sam: We don't have any.
Diane: What? "Precise measurements are one of the keys to a good drink." Page 12.
Carla: Serving it the same day it's ordered is right up there, too.

Quote from Diane

Diane: Sam, would you mind if I stay and watch?
Sam: No-
Diane: Oh, I promise- I promise I won't ask a bunch of dumb questions. You won't even know I'm here.
Sam: OK.
Diane: So, why poker? Why not crazy eights or chess? Why don't I shut up like I said I would? Oh, I always get this way when I'm nervous, you know. Sam, what can I do to stop? I know what to do with hiccups, but with runaway chattering... [Sam stuffs a towel in Diane's mouth]

Quote from Norm

George: Hello, everyone.
Diane: [muffled] Hi, George.
George: I understand you fellas have a little poker game going tonight?
Sam: Yeah, yeah. Some of us get together every once in a while. Coach thought you might like to sit in.
George: I haven't played poker in years. I just hope I don't embarrass myself.
Norm: Embarrass yourself? You're playing poker with a bunch of guys who can't bet and chew gum at the same time.

Quote from Cliff

Carla: Your bet, Cliff.
Cliff: Ah, okay, I'll see that 50 and I'll raise you... Uh, let's see. I'll raise you 100 foreign commemoratives.
Carla: You can't bet stamps.
Cliff: I'll fold, then.

Quote from Norm

Cliff: Up to you, Norm.
Norm: The Lord hates a coward. I'll see the 50 and raise $300.
George: You're bluffing.
Norm: You're right. I'm out.

Quote from Sam

Sam: What the hell happened?
Harry: I lost.
Sam: Yeah, no kidding. You lost everything I put in. Why didn't you cheat? I mean, that was the whole point, wasn't it?
Harry: Sam, I ran every gaff I know and he beat me, all right? He beat me! Sam, I don't know what to say to you except I'm sorry. I'm going to wash up.

Quote from Sam

George: Ladies and gentlemen, it's been a pleasure.
Coach: Sam. Sam, could I ask you a question?
Sam: What?
Coach: Does four of a kind beat a straight?
Sam: Yeah, of course.
Coach: Then why did Harry throw in these four threes?
George: Look what time it's getting to be.
Sam: Uh, George, you want to hang on a second? What's going on here?
George: I'm just going on home.
Sam: Well, maybe not. Maybe not. You and Harry concocted this whole deal this afternoon, isn't that right? What are you gonna do, go outside and split up the winnings?
George: Well, of course not.
Sam: Then you wouldn't mind if we just take our money back.
George: Try anything and I'll tell the police about this poker game. You could lose your liquor licence.
Sam: You've done this before, huh?
