Season 5, Episode 17 -  Aired February 5, 1987

Carla worries she is the reason Eddie LeBec (Jay Thomas) is in a slump. Meanwhile, Diane completes her jury service.

Quote from Diane

Diane: Good eve- Aren't you Bill and Sherry Grand?
Bill Grand: That's right.
Diane: [laughs] Oh. What an incredible coincidence. I was the foreman of the jury at your trial.
Bill Grand: Oh, yeah, the one with the notebook.
Diane: Oh, you noticed?
Bill Grand: It was hard not to.
Diane: I was keeping track of the testimony. Diane Chambers.
Sherry Grand: Hello.
Bill Grand: Well, it's a pleasure to meet you. Why weren't you at the party?
Diane: Party? What party?
Bill Grand: The party the jury threw for me. I'm surprised they would've had it without you. You seem so attractive and intelligent.
Diane: Yes, well, those qualities confuse some people. Besides, I had to work. But who cares about me?

Quote from Diane

Diane: The important thing is you two are back together again, huh?
Sherry Grand: Thank you. Could we maybe order? [Diane laughs] I'd like a glass of white wine.
Diane: Wine. What- What would you like?
Bill Grand: I'll have a Bloody Mary.
Diane: [throaty laugh] Excuse me. I know this is very forward of me, but the last time I saw you in court, you were ranting and raving, calling this man a wife murderer. It's very shocking for me to see you with him now, so blissful.
Sherry Grand: I guess I just realized how much I love him.
Diane: I really admire your your trust, your conviction. If you don't mind a little friendly advice, I'd sleep with one eye open. [laughs] I'll get the drinks.
Bill Grand: It's a good thing you dropped the charges. I'd hate to have my fate in her hands.
Sherry Grand: Bill, why did you have the power saw in the kitchen?

Quote from Diane

Diane: A white wine and a Bloody Mary. [throaty laugh] Human nature.
Sam: What?!
Diane: Oh, that couple over there. They're the Grands. You remember. The case on which I was foreman of the jury?
Sam: Oh, right, right, right, the, uh, power saw.
Diane: I know. Oh, I tell you, it never ceases to amaze me how some people can be so ignorant of what is obvious to the rest of the world. Well, I guess there's something to be said for forgiveness. In fact, in this rather jaded day and age, it's nice to know that amor vincit omnia.
Sam: Hmm?
Diane: Love conquers all.
Sam: Mm.
Diane: And l, for one, shall not stand in its way. You know, Sam, I'm going to pay for this round.
Sam: Well, you better hurry. It looks like he's about to fire up the old Black & Decker there.
Sherry Grand: Oh, don't touch me! Stay away from me! Just stay away from me! [exits]
Diane: What happened?
Bill Grand: What happened? Why don't you check your stupid little notebook?!
Diane: So the system works after all.

Quote from Sam

Eddie LeBec: Hey, Sam.
Sam: Hey.
Eddie LeBec: See the game tonight?
Sam: I sure did. Congratulations.
Eddie LeBec: Thanks. Yeah. It felt great. [chuckles] Did you ever have one of those nights you just knew you could do no wrong?
Sam: Oh, yeah, all the time. Well, twice.

Quote from Carla

Carla: What are you doing here?
Eddie LeBec: Just came by for a drink. That okay?
Carla: Free country.
Eddie LeBec: You know Carla, after the game tonight, I... l figured out why you dumped me. I guess I'm a little slow on the uptake since I've taken so many on the melon. l, uh I guess you wanted to see if you were causin' my slump, eh?
Carla: Yeah, and guess what?
Eddie LeBec: Well, it doesn't seem fair that the girl that means more to me than anybody else ever has, you know, turns out to be a turns out, you know...
Carla: Say it: a jinx. A hex, a whammy, a voodoo, a curse.
Eddie LeBec: What am I going to do?
Carla: You're not going to do anything. I'm not going to be responsible for the Bruins missing the playoffs or for your career going down the toilet.

Quote from Carla

Carla: Hey, Eddie. Knock 'em dead.
Eddie LeBec: Yeah.
Carla: And watch out for those wrist shots low in the corner on your stick side.
Eddie LeBec: Okay, you got it. Oh. I wanted you to have this.
Carla: What is it?
Eddie LeBec: It's a recording of our song. I thought you know, maybe sometime, you would I don't know, maybe play it and and, um, think of me. You know, think good stuff.
Carla: I will.
Eddie LeBec: Okay. All right, I'll see you, Carla.
Carla: Yeah. See you.
Eddie LeBec: You, too, Sam.

Quote from Carla

Carla: Eddie, do me a favor.
Eddie LeBec: Yeah, Carla.
Carla: Beat it.
Eddie LeBec: What's the problem?
Carla: The problem is we just don't work anymore. It's been a lot of grins, but we both knew it wasn't going to last forever. So, it's time for you to hit the pavement.
Eddie LeBec: Well, hey, I... I don't get it. I thought things were going great for us.
Carla: Yeah, well, they were, but they're not anymore, and I just don't want to talk about it, so shove off!
Eddie LeBec: Okay. Whatever you say. I'll see you around, I guess.
