Quote from Brick
Brick: I'm supposed to tell you something. It's important. [whispers] Important.
Frankie: Well?
Brick: [normal voice] They wanna talk to you about that test I had to take.
Frankie: The Waterman-Ginsberg test?
Brick: Yeah. Why'd I have to take that test anyway?
Frankie: No reason.
Brick: Then why did they only give it to me and the kid who sets things on fire?
Quote from Frankie
Frankie: I guess what we were wondering is, is there something we should be doing?
Mrs. Tompkins: Well, what do you do now to help him socialize?
[flashback to the family watching TV:]
Brick: I think...
All: Shh!
[present:]
Frankie: Oh, you know. The usual.
Mrs. Tompkins: I'd do a little more than that.
Quote from Axl
Frankie: [v.o.] That stupid counselor meeting left us more confused than ever. Why is everyone always trying to convince you something's wrong with your kid?
Frankie: What is wrong with you? That is for the block party.
Axl: [mouth full] I can read. I'm not stupid.
Mike: We'll be the judge of whether you're stupid or not. Now, I know you own pants, I've seen them draped over the TV. Go put them on.
Quote from Frankie
Axl: Oh, Mom, are you going to the Booster Club thing at school on Friday?
Frankie: Well, I will if you want me to. You sound like you do. You know, that means so much to me. Oh, I miss you. [goes to hug Axl]
Axl: Whoa, chill, gross. Thought we talked about this. [walks away]
Frankie: What happened to him? He used to be so sweet. Remember when he was 6 and he made me that clay giraffe?
[flashback:]
Young Axl: Thank you for being the best mom ever.
[present:]
Frankie: Should've kept that.
Quote from Mike
Frankie: So, what are we gonna do?
Mike: About which one?
Frankie: The small one. I don't know. Maybe we didn't do enough for Brick.
Mike: He's a third kid. He's lucky we remember to feed him.
Quote from Brick
[as Mike scans the court and struggles to see Brick, he realizes Brick is sitting next to him in the bleachers:]
Mike: Come on, what are you doing?
Brick: Can you take me to a book signing this weekend? My favorite writer is going to be there.
Mike: What? Yeah, sure. Whatever. Just get back out there. Get your hands out of your pockets. Ketchup packets?
Brick: They're my security condiments. They soothe me.
Mike: You're playing a basketball game. You're not supposed to be soothed. Give me those things. Come on, get back in the game. And make a friend, would you?
Quote from Frankie
Frankie: [v.o.] Okay, so Axl didn't give me his jersey. It was no big deal. [flashback to Frankie being the only mom not wearing the jersey in the photograph] It was a huge deal. Where's the $500 test to tell me how I ended up with a clueless bonehead who doesn't even know how to thank his mother?
Quote from Mike
Mike: That's it. I'm out.
Frankie: Whoa, what do you mean, you're out?
Mike: It was a disaster. It's not that he was even bad. He was just... weird.
Frankie: [sighs] Damn it. I was hoping it was gonna be like the YouTube video where the odd kid on the bench makes the basket and saves the game and everybody loves him.
Mike: Yeah. It wasn't like that.
Frankie: So, what do we do now?
Mike: I told you I'm out. I'm gonna work on something I can understand. The lawn mower.
Frankie: You don't get to be out.
Mike: I'm out.
Frankie: You don't get to be out.
Quote from Axl
Frankie: Sue, what happened to your face?
Axl: She was born that way.
Frankie: Axl.
Quote from Frankie
Frankie: [v.o.] The block party was finally here and my worries were melting away. I don't know if it was because Mike and Brick fixed the mower together, or Mike and Brick fixed the margarita maker. Who am I kidding? I knew.
