‘Clash of the Taylors’

Season 7, Episode 2 -  Aired September 30, 1997

Tim is upset when Randy questions Binford's environmental record in an article for the school player.

Quote from Bud

Randy: Well, Mr. Harper, according to my sources...
Tim: According to his sources! [laughs] [clears throat]
Randy: According to my sources, your company has a poor pollution record. How do you respond?
Bud: Son, Binford is a responsible corporate citizen. We are committed to protecting our environment.
Randy: Well, then why does Pollution Watch call Binford, and I quote, "an egregious environmental offender"? And why aren't you doing anything to reduce emissions from your paint and solvent plants?
Tim: He's quite the little Dickens, isn't he?
Bud: Yes, he is. But, see, what the little Dickens doesn't know is, we're in the planning stages of a new emission reduction system. But even at our present rate, all Binford plants fully comply with government regulations.
Tim: There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. No offense.
Bud: None taken.

Quote from Tim

Bud: Hey, Tim, how's your golf game?
Tim: Pretty good.
Bud: Great.
Tim: Broke 90.
Bud: Yeah?
Tim: I got two golf carts.

Quote from Randy

Randy: Well, Mr. Harper, isn't it true that Binford buys pollution credits from other companies?
Bud: Why yes, it is.
Tim: What are pollution credits?
Bud: You see, each company in an industrial zone is allotted a certain amount of emissions. Now, if one company doesn't use their entire share, they can sell pollution credits to another company.
Tim: It's a good example of corporate teamwork.
Randy: It's corporate bull. I mean, Binford's just found a loophole to pollute more than it should. Don't you think that's a bit sleazy?
Bud: Wait a minute. Now, what we're doing is perfectly legal. Besides, we won't need the credits once our emission control system is in place.
Randy: Well, how long's that gonna take?
Bud: Roughly ten years.
Randy: Ten years? That's a joke.

Quote from Randy

Randy: Mr. Harper, I was always taught to believe that Binford was a company that cared. But it seems all you care about is making money no matter who you hurt.
Tim: You know what, I think this interview's over. Thank you very much for your time, Bud. Come on, come on!
Randy: Dad!

Quote from Randy

Tim: You were completely out of line in there!
Randy: Me? Binford's the one who's out of line. They're sweeping their pollution problem under the rug, so they can maximize profits.
Tim: Quiet down, all right? Let me tell you something. When you get older you'll understand not everything is so cut and dry.
Randy: I understand right now, Dad.
Tim: Good.
Randy: You're taking the company line. You're a sell-out.
Tim: You called me a sell-out?
Randy: Well, yeah, Dad, I called you a sell-out. Then again, to be a sell-out, you'd have to have principles to begin with.

Quote from Tim

Tim: Randy completely embarrassed me in Bud's office. He called me a sell-out.
Jill: That doesn't sound like Randy. He's always so sweet and polite.
Tim: Well, that's over. We'd be better off with Dog-boy.

Quote from Randy

Tim: Wait a minute. I want to tell you a story.
Randy: About what?
Tim: A young boy and his goat.
Randy: That's a little more than I want to know.
