‘The Faux Pas’

Season 9, Episode 11 -  Aired February 7, 2005

After Ray makes a joke about janitors in front of another kid, he tries to apologize to the boy's father, who happens to be a custodian.

Quote from Ray

George: It's okay.
Ray: No, it's not okay. It's not. Come here, please. Just sit down for one minute. One minute, please. Go ahead.
Just- Just sit down, please. Please, please, please. You know you know what happened? I- I wasn't thinking. So so I'm sorry that I was a little insensitive. I think maybe I said what I said because I'm not a janitor.
George: Well, actually, now that you mention it, we prefer the term "custodian".
Ray: Custodian. Right. Custodian. I meant custodian.
Debra: I always say custodian.
Ray: I've said custodian!

George: I- It's okay, really. I- I'd better get going.
Ray: No, no. Now I feel like you feel like you have to go, but, please I'm not like that.
George: Oh, I know.
Ray: No, no. Please, wait.
Debra: Ray, let him go. I'm sorry, George.
Ray: Hey, don't apologize for me!

Quote from Ray

Ray: Hey, Robert, you remember the twins' wonderful friend Chris? This is his wonderful dad, George.
Robert: Oh. I think Chris is wonderful. A splendid lad.
Ray: He's my brother Robert. Yeah. He's a cop. He's a cop. Just a regular cop. Working Joe. My brother.

Quote from Ray

Debra: You have to stop. George, Ray is sorry for his faux pas, and I'm sorry for all of this.
Ray: "Faux pas! Faux pas!" You're so much better than me, right?
Debra: This is not about me.
Ray: I know. So stay out of it. I don't go apologizing for you when you do one of your faux pas.
Debra: You know what? You know what? Next time I make a faux pas like you, please say something!
Ray: I will, I will.
