‘The Award’
Season 5, Episode 14 - Aired February 26, 2014
Frankie discovers that the quarry is honoring Mike with an award for twenty years of service, but Mike is reluctant to attend the ceremony. Sue tries to get the high school students to know each other after she is mistakenly sat on by a guy who didn't even realize she was on the chair. Meanwhile, Axl searches for a mystery girl who left a message on his phone, and Brick gets another box of his cousins' hand-me-downs.
Quote from Axl
Cassidy: [on the phone] Listen, I just called to say that it's possible I may have left you an embarrassing message the other night.
Axl: Yeah, uh, I might have heard that.
Cassidy: Ugh! So you knew it was me?
Axl: Of course I knew it was you. Uh... [chuckles] so... [clears throat] how you been?
Cassidy: Okay.

Mike: Told you I was no good in the spotlight. Was it as bad as I thought it was?
Frankie: Probably a little worse. What happened to all that stuff you talked about the other day? Watching their kids grow up, how your crew made it a great place to work every day?
Mike: Pretty sure I got some of that in there.
Frankie: No, you didn't.
Mike: Hmm.

Brick: Okay. Do you know how embarrassing it is to show up at an awards ceremony wearing the same outfit as another woman? [sighs] Drive.
Quote from Sue
Darrin: Well, I think I got the AC off, but I might have accidentally got the heater stuck on.
Sue: Oh, thanks. Well, you better get going. I'm sure Angel's got something special planned to celebrate your B-plus.
Darrin: Oh, actually, Angel and I broke up a couple weeks ago.
Sue: Oh? Really?
Darrin: Yeah. Relationships are hard.
Sue: I know. I know.
Darrin: How are things with your boyfriend?
Sue: What boyfriend?
Darrin: You know, the Glossner guy.
Sue: Oh, oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I do not like him at all. I mean, yeah, I think he liked me a lot, but, uh, no, not even close.
Darrin: Really?
Sue: Really.
Darrin: Hey, you feel it? It's getting warm in here.
Sue: Yes. It is heating up considerably.

Axl: [v.o.] Funny thing is when you have a history with someone, it's easy to connect. The words just seem to flow.
Cassidy: [on the phone] I still can't hear it. Oinge? Am I saying it weird?
Axl: [laughs] Yes, it's absolutely weird. It's not in any way how you say that word. [laughs]

Frankie: [v.o.] And sometimes if you have a long history with someone, you don't need many words at all.
Mike: Hey, guys.
Dave: Hey.
Jim: Have a good night.
Chuck: Cool party.
Mike: Yeah, listen, um... I thought I said certain things that, uh, I might not have said. So I want to say, um... you know, see you tomorrow.
Jim: See you tomorrow, Mike.
