‘Mrs. George Devereaux’
Season 6, Episode 9 - Aired November 17, 1990
Blanche is shocked when her late husband, George, appears and claims to have faked his own death. Meanwhile, Dorothy catches the attention of two celebrities.
Quote from Blanche
George: Blanche, that is Sonny Bono. He's a major television star.
Blanche: Boy, you have been gone a long time.
Quote from Sophia
Sophia: What's there to think about? Sonny has the eyes of a poet, the soul of a poet. Hey, you're through with those furry vests, aren't you?
Sonny Bono: Oh, yes, ma'am.
Sophia: Take her.
Quote from Rose
Dorothy: Blanche! Are you OK?
Blanche: No, I'm not OK! I feel like I'm goin' insane. My life's been turned upside down.
Rose: Just so we're in sync, it's this husband-back- from-the-grave thing, right?
Blanche: Yes, you twit!
Quote from Dorothy
Sonny Bono: Dorothy, before I go, can I make just one more plea for your heart?
Dorothy: Oh, all right, Sonny. Go ahead.
Sonny Bono: That was it.
Dorothy: Goodbye, Sonny.
Quote from Blanche
George: Blanche, you didn't hear me out.
Blanche: I've heard all I have to hear.
George: I know this is rough for you, but it's been rough for me, too.
Blanche: Now you're gonna listen! Nine years ago, I found out that my partner was embezzling from the family company. He was a clever man. All the signs pointed to me. My business was collapsing. I was facing disgrace, Blanche. Oh, I know, I could've stayed and faced the music, but it's just this damn Southern pride. It's the same Southern pride that kept me from being a dancer.
Blanche: George, please, I've had enough surprises for one day.
George: Blanche, faking my death was a mistake. For the last nine years, every day without you has seemed longer than the one before. Now you just say the word and I'll go back where I came from, but I guess what I'm really trying to say is, Blanche, will you be my wife again?
Quote from Dorothy
Dorothy: [on the phone] No, Sonny, I haven't made a decision yet. Besides, Blanche needs me now. Look, I have to go. No, Sonny. No. All right, if I do it, will you hang up? I got you, babe I got you, babe Babe.
Quote from Blanche
Blanche: You know, ever since the funeral I've had this dream where it's all a mistake and George is really alive. And I just feel so happy. We see each other, we run to embrace, but just before we hug - always just before we hug - I wake up. And I lie there for a split second thinking George is asleep beside me. Until it dawns on me one more time that he's really gone, and I grieve again. I grieved for that man nine years! How can I forgive that?
Dorothy: Oh, Blanche, honey, you need to get ahold of yourself.
Blanche: What I need is for things to be like they were this morning, before any of this ever happened. You know, as far as I'm concerned, George Devereaux is better off dead.
Quote from Dorothy
Dorothy: Oh, now, this is ridiculous. I do not want two grown men fighting over me.
Sophia: Pussycat, how many chances are you gonna get?
Dorothy: Proceed.
Quote from Dorothy
Police Officer: Lyle Waggoner? You're under arrest.
Lyle Waggoner: Arrest? What's the charge?
Police Officer: I don't have time to list all of them, but he's a prime suspect in a major crime spree.
Lyle Waggoner: Where?
Police Officer: Palm Springs, California.
Sonny Bono: It's good to be mayor.
Police Officer: Let's go.
Lyle Waggoner: No, wait. Dorothy, have you made a decision?
Dorothy: Yes, I have made a decision. Sonny, I think that Lyle is the sweetest, kindest man I have ever met. What you have done here is a totally underhanded, inexcusable abuse of power. Oh, Sonny, the power.
Quote from Blanche
Blanche: Well, Mel Bushman is picking me up in 15 minutes.
Rose: Blanche, George called again.
Blanche: I told you, when he calls, take the message and throw it out. I'm back to my old self. Blanche Devereaux has returned!
Sophia: Oh, boy, strike up the gland!
