‘The Steve Weekend’

Season 9, Episode 14 -  Aired February 23, 2022

Barry is surrounded by his ex-girlfriends when Geoff and Erica invite their friends to the beach. Meanwhile, Beverly sends Adam to monitor Lou Schwartz when he takes over the wedding video.

Quote from Adam

Adam: I need to make things right, and I need your help to do it.
Other Adam Goldberg: That's what Wesley said in season two's seminal episode, "Requiem."
Adam: Mr. Belvedere?
Other Adam Goldberg: Sorry. Sometimes, I forget the world at large doesn't share my passion for all things Belv.
Adam: Look, I know if we work together, we can make a wedding tribute video so magical, it could end all this madness. But if you won't do it for love or art, would you do it for money?
Other Adam Goldberg: You had me at money.

Quote from Adam

Adult Adam: [v.o.] And just like that, we got down to work. We used Schwartz photos, Goldberg photos, even my home movies. And so I gathered the folks who needed to see it most. [Tape rewinding]
Announcer: [v.o. on tape] Up next, Mr. Belvedere.
Beverly: "Mr. Belvedere"?
Adam: I'll tell you what it's not, loving pictures of our family set to a James Taylor song!
Other Adam Goldberg: Damn it, it happened again. Those trucker pills were supposed to keep me focused.
Lou Schwartz: Can I go? I despise that fussbottom butler.
Beverly: Maybe because he reminds you of you, a cranky buttinsky who oversteps his role!
Other Adam Goldberg: Oh, hell no! I will not stand here while you sully Lynn Aloysius Belvedere's good name!
Lou Schwartz: Aloysius?

Quote from Adam

Adam: Guys! We wanted to remind you that weddings are about coming together, joining forces, and being better for it. Erica and Geoff are making a commitment to spend the rest of their lives together. Why can't you celebrate that?
Beverly: I have been.
Adam: At the exclusion of the Schwartzes! He went too far with the video, but this all started with that wedding announcement.
Lou Schwartz: That was very hurtful.
Beverly: I know. I'm sorry. It's just you're this accomplished eye doctor, and I'm just the mother of the bride. [sighs] I wanted to feel important, too.
Lou Schwartz: Beverly, you're incredibly important. You raised a wonderful daughter that we're beyond delighted to welcome into our family.
Adam: And two great sons.
Lou Schwartz: If you say so.

Quote from Adam

Beverly: You're right. [voice breaking] I am a mother and a hero.
Adam: See, this is what it's all about.
Other Adam Goldberg: You know what? It is what it's all about. I have so much work to do. [runs off]
Lou Schwartz: Making a montage video that includes both of our families?
Other Adam Goldberg: No, man. I'm gonna take another crack at my Belv script. Toodle-oo.

Quote from Barry

Barry: Can I ask you guys something, based on your intimate knowledge of me?
Valley Erica: You and I kissed once at a party, but, sure, I'll give you life advice.
Barry: Why do I always ruin the good things I have?
Lainey: Look, Bar, you're the best, but you can also be a little...
Ren: Emotionally out of control?
Lainey: I was gonna say intense. And you're never better than when you're not worrying about what other people think of you.
Ren: Or trying to show off.
Lainey: You have a giant heart, and you were a great boyfriend.
Barry: I was?
Lainey: Yes.
Ren: Absolutely.
Valley Erica: I thought your name was Gary until this weekend.
Lainey: Just be honest. No weird plans or schemes. Just tell her how you feel.
Barry: I think I can do that.
Lainey: We know you can.
Valley Erica: I don't know that you can, but maybe?

Quote from Barry

Barry: Joanne, I know I've been a jerk.
Joanne: Yeah, you have.
Barry: Look, all the women I ever dated are now with amazing men, so I freaked out.
Joanne: Because you're jealous. Yeah, I get it.
Barry: Because I got scared that you might be the next one to leave me and go find your Steve.
Joanne: You really think that?
Barry: Seems to be the pattern.
Joanne: Barry, I would never dump you for some amazing guy because you're my amazing guy. ["Higher Love" by Steve Winwood plays] You're my Steve.
Barry: [chuckles] Guess I am the big winner this weekend.
Joanne: Yeah, you are. We both are.
