Vy: Well, honey, I don't mean to be critical but I don't like what I saw today. Will's got a bunch of grown men doing all the work he should be doing. I haven't seen him lift a finger except to scratch his head.
Vivian: You're not being fair, Vy. Will works very hard at his homework.
Vy: Back home, Will did his homework, mowed the lawn, raked the leaves and cleared the table. I don't think a little work around the house is gonna interfere with his education. From what I see, all he's learning is how to be a rich kid.
Vivian: Philip and I just want Will to have the same advantages that our kids have. I mean, isn't that why you sent him out here?
Vy: I sent him out here to stay out of trouble and get a good education. But, Vivian, I also taught that boy the value of hard work and I don't want him to lose that. All I know is the kids in this house are getting a free ride. A free ride in a fancy car. But I don't mean to be critical.

Vy: Look at my boy. You really have changed.
Will: Yeah, I'm handsome.
Vy: No, you haven't changed. I hope he's not eating you out of house and home?
Vivian: Not at all.
Vy: [to Phil] He's certainly not taking any food out of your mouth.
Philip: Starting already. I don't believe it.
Will: [laughs] That's a good one, Mama. I got to use that one.
Vy: No, you don't make fun of your uncle. That's my job.

Hilary: What should I do with these bowls?
Vy: Just put them in the dishwasher.
Hilary: Here? [Carlton shrugs his shoulders]
Ashley: Well, let's just take them up to Geoffrey's room. He'll know what to do with them.
Vy: Lord, have mercy. Just leave them here. I'll take care of them. Now, go on. Honestly, I've never seen such a lazy bunch in my life and I work at the post office.

Vy: What are you all doing up?
Vivian: Eating and talking about sex.
Vy: Well, personally, I prefer eating. You don't have to wait an hour for seconds.

Vy: Baby, whatever it is, I will understand.
Will: I know, you'll understand and I'll be on my way to the emergency room.
Vy: Will, just say it.
Will: Mom, I don't want to move back home.
Vy: How can you say that? Baby, when I sent you out here, it was only on a temporary basis. I always expected you to come back home.
Will: So did I, Mom. And, I know I was tripping when I first came out here 'cause you were right, I needed to be out here. And I still need to be out here. You know, it's given me a head start, you know, so I can break out on my own.
Vy: What about college? You know I can't afford to send you to an out-of-state school.
Will: I know, Ma, but, look, I was hoping I could get a scholarship or a loan, and Uncle Phil said he'd help me. And, if that doesn't work, I'll get a job... I'll get two jobs, but please, don't make me move back home, Mommy.
Vy: Obviously, you've given this a lot of thought, huh? But I'll be honest with you, I still want you to come home. I miss you.
Will: I miss you, too, Mom. Look, but I'll visit. Every Christmas. And every Easter. And whatever else of them holidays it'd take to get that evil look out your face.
Vy: Well, it sounds like you made up your mind. So I guess I have to respect your decision.
Will: You do? I mean, you do! I love you, Mom.
Vy: I love you, too, baby. As much as I hate to admit it, your aunts were right and I was wrong. But don't you dare tell them, you hear me?

Vivian: How's everything at the post office?
Vy: They made me a supervisor.
Vivian: That's wonderful.
Vy: Honey, they make everybody at the post office a supervisor. You practically have to eat the mail not to get promoted.

Geoffrey: The real estate agent assured Mr. Banks that this cabin sleeps 15 people.
Vy: Well, there are 13 of us and only four beds. Now, I don't know how you do things in England but this family ain't that close.

Vy: Well, Frank, how are you? It sure is good to see you.
Frank: Really? I thought you said, "Next time I see that White boy, I hope he's under a bus."
Vy: That was just a figure of speech. Come on, give big sister Vy a hug.
Will: You know, Mom, that was real sweet. Hey, somebody get an exorcist on the phone.

Vy: He's just hard-headed! I don't know where he gets it from.
Vivian: I do: He gets it from you. I am the understanding sister. Helen is the loud one, Janice is the flighty one and you are the hard-headed one.
Vy: I thought I was the sweet one.
Vivian: You said you were the sweet one. When we tried to tell you you weren't you wouldn't listen because you're too hard-headed.
Carlton: As much as I enjoy these wonderful walks down memory lane, I'm pooped. I'm going to bed.
Vivian: Look, why don't we try to enjoy what's left of dinner?
Vy: Wait a minute. How can you eat at a time like this? Vivian, I can't get this out of my mind. How can you say that I am hard-headed?
Vivian: Gee, Vy, I don't know where I could have gotten that idea.

Vy: Don't worry, Geoffrey, we're on our way. Vivian's having the baby. We've got to get out of here.
Janice: Finally. I'll go get Carlton.
Vy: Come on, Hilary.
Hilary: I can't go into a hospital looking like this. The place is full of doctors.
Vy: Hilary, please don't tell me you're that superficial.
Hilary: Well, it may be superficial to you, but I'm young, I can still get a husband.
Vy: Not without any teeth, you won't.
