‘Mr. Monk's 100th Case’

Season 7, Episode 7 -  Aired September 5, 2008

As Monk works on his 100th case for the SFPD, involving a serial killer, he is profiled by a TV news magazine.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: I noticed that all three pictures were taken by the same photographer.
James Novak: There were ten other detectives in that room. You were the only one who noticed it.
Adrian Monk: Well, I was standing closer to the board.
Natalie: Oh, he's just being modest. 50 cops could have been locked in that room for a whole year, and nobody would have noticed it.
Adrian Monk: Maybe not a year.
James Novak: Thanks to Adrian Monk, the police finally had a suspect, a local photographer named Douglas Thurman. Was he responsible for three brutal murders? And could he be stopped before he killed again? Find out after these messages.

Quote from Lieutenant Disher

Lieutenant Disher: What's wrong with him?
Natalie: He thinks he might have made a mistake.
Lieutenant Disher: What, about coming here?
Natalie: No, about the case. About the one on TV. He thinks he might have missed something.
Lieutenant Disher: Really? Well, this could get interesting.

Quote from Lieutenant Disher

Lieutenant Disher: That was probably the low point. 'cause we had that creep in handcuffs the day before.
Captain Stottlemeyer: We never should have let him go. But the law is the law. Insufficient evidence.
Lieutenant Disher: We put a statewide APB out on him.
Captain Stottlemeyer: But we were too late.
James Novak: [v.o.] Douglas Thurman's reign of terror was not over yet. Three hours after the raid, Kate Kindel, a 24-year-old part-time model, was found dead in her apartment. She had been strangled like the others. And like the others, she had recently posed for Douglas Thurman. Even though he was on the run and the police were closing in, Thurman could not control his homicidal instincts. Early that morning, he broke into Kindel's apartment. Her landlady found her on the living room floor three hours later.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Lieutenant Disher: Took her lipstick, of course.
Adrian Monk: It's a little dark. I could use some light. [James Novak flicks one of five light switches and turns on a lamp by Monk] Thank you.

Quote from Adrian Monk

James Novak: [v.o.] One hour later, as a S.W.A.T. team moved in, Douglas Thurman chose to end the drama himself. With a single bullet to the head, Thurman had claimed his final victim. He has solved his 100th case. Thanks to him, the people of San Francisco will wake up tomorrow in a safer, brighter city. But for Adrian Monk, perhaps the most successful homicide detective in the world today, the night is never-ending.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: San Racine is south.
Natalie: Excuse me?
Adrian Monk: Thurman had Mexican currency in his wallet when he killed himself. He was heading for Mexico.
James Novak: So what?
Adrian Monk: So Kate Kindel, the fourth victim, lived 50 miles north. Why would he go out of his way like that? And wasn't she strangled from behind? All the other victims were strangled from the front.
Lieutenant Disher: Yeah, you're right, she was strangled from behind.
Adrian Monk: Right. Douglas Thurman did kill victims one, two, and three. We were right about that. But somebody else killed Kate Kindel.
James Novak: Well, the case is over, Mr. Monk.
Adrian Monk: I don't think so.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: What happened? Was she threatening to tell your wife? Did she want money? All we know for sure is that you wanted her gone. Working on this show, on this serial killer story, gave you the perfect opportunity.
Captain Stottlemeyer: It's true. You had access to everything, all the stuff we kept from the public.
Lieutenant Disher: The killer's M.O., the lipstick.
Adrian Monk: Here's what happened. You knew the police were planning to raid Thurman's studio in the morning. That night, you went to Kate Kindel's apartment. You told her you wanted to take some pictures. After the photo session, you got down to business. You took her lipstick, because that's what Douglas Thurman would have done.
Lieutenant Disher: The Lipstick Assassin.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Randy.
Adrian Monk: The next morning during the raid, you planted the roll of film. It would look like Kate was just another client, just another victim. It was a perfect plan, framing a serial killer.
Natalie: Yeah, you should have watched your own show, Mr. Novak. You can't beat the man.

Quote from Lieutenant Disher

Lieutenant Disher: Probably didn't even listen to my CD, did you?
James Novak: Okay, first of all, you're a terrible singer. And secondly, you can't go around accusing people. Where's your proof?
Melissa Novak: I think I have proof. What night was it?
Lieutenant Disher: July 25th.
Melissa Novak: I thought so. It was my brother's birthday. There was a party that you missed, of course. He came home at 5:00 A.M. and took a shower. I was suspicious. No, I wasn't suspicious. I knew. I went through his pockets. Is this what you need?
Lieutenant Disher: Yeah.
Melissa Novak: You can check it for DNA, right?
James Novak: [pulls out a gun] I'll take that, sergeant.

Quote from Lieutenant Disher

Jillian: [screams as gun is fired]
Lieutenant Disher: Jillian. Somebody call an ambulance. Jillian?
Jillian: Oh, sorry. Force of habit. Force of habit. I'm sorry.
Lieutenant Disher: Oh, you had me.
Jillian: I did?
Lieutenant Disher: That was great. You totally got me on that.
