Quote from Lieutenant Disher

Natalie: Hey, we just got your call. I didn't quite understand it. You found a body?
Captain Stottlemeyer: Uh, not quite. But there's a two-year-old boy named Tommy Grazer.
Lieutenant Disher: Uh, not two years, twenty-two months. Not quite two.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Whatever. Anyway, um, he was, um, separated from his mother.
Lieutenant Disher: His, uh, guardian. She's not actually his mother. She, uh, runs a foster home. For the record.
Captain Stottlemeyer: For the record, stand over there.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Anyway, he was in the playground, and he disappeared for like ten minutes.
Lieutenant Disher: Uh, 14 minutes.
Captain Stottlemeyer: When we found him the little guy had a severed human finger.
Natalie: A finger?
Captain Stottlemeyer: A pinkie. It was still bleeding, freshly severed. Probably about four hours ago.
Lieutenant Disher: Yeah, about four hours ago.
Captain Stottlemeyer: I just said that, Randy.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Natalie: Just a finger?
Captain Stottlemeyer: Yeah. So far. Now, we're not telling the press anything. All we're telling them is that somebody found a body part. We're not giving them any details.
Adrian Monk: Where did he find it?
Captain Stottlemeyer: The boy's not talking.
Adrian Monk: Maybe he hates cops.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Maybe he's two years old.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: Hello, my my name is Adrian Monk.
Tommy: Monk.
Adrian Monk: That's right. I'm working with the police department. Technically, I'm here as a consultant. Do you understand consultant?
Natalie: Mr. Monk, he's not gonna get that.
Adrian Monk: Um, an advisor, sort of an adjunct.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Monk, I don't know what an adjunct is.
Tommy: Monk. Monk.
Adrian Monk: Look, I'd... I'd like to take him for a little walk, see where he goes. Maybe he'll retrace his steps. Is that okay?
Janet Novak: Yeah. Okay.
Adrian Monk: Um, would you like to go for a walk? [Tommy grabs Monk's hand] Oh.
Tommy: Monk. Monk. Monk.
Adrian Monk: He won't stop saying "Monk".

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: Where did you find that finger? Was it over there? Was it over here?
Tommy: This way.
Adrian Monk: This way?
Tommy: Yeah.
Adrian Monk: Are you sure?
Captain Stottlemeyer: [to Natalie] Looks like Monk finally found a friend.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: And he wouldn't let go. Did you see him?
Captain Stottlemeyer: Yes, Monk. We saw him. We were there.
Adrian Monk: I mean, every time I tried to say goodbye he... he just hugged me tighter, even tighter. He had the most perfect little hands. Did you notice his his perfect hands?
Natalie: Yes, Mr. Monk. He liked you.
Adrian Monk: You think so?
Natalie: Yes. He kept on saying your name over and over, didn't he? "Monk, Monk, Monk."
Adrian Monk: Yeah, he did.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Lab Tech: It's not tree sap. We already ran it. The main component is abietic acid.
Adrian Monk: Abietic acid? That's violin rosin.
Natalie: I think that's pretty expensive rosin. It's for professionals.
Adrian Monk: So professional, or at least very serious violinist.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Yeah.
Adrian Monk: 25 years of age, who is missing.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Adrian Monk: Maybe I should talk to that boy again.
Natalie: You mean Tommy? He's two years old. He won't be able to tell you anything.
Adrian Monk: I don't know. He found the finger. Maybe if I spend some more time with him.
Natalie: You miss him, don't you?

Quote from Adrian Monk

Natalie: Hi, I'm Natalie Teeger. This is Adrian Monk. And we're working with the police on the investigation.
Theresa Crane: About the severed-
Natalie: Yeah.
Theresa Crane: Right, Mrs. Crane, Theresa Crane. I'm Tommy's case worker.
Tommy: Monk.
Theresa Crane: I see you two have met before.
Natalie: What happens to him now?
Theresa Crane: It's a tough one. I've been trying to place him with a family in Livingston. It would be a perfect match, but they can't take him for two weeks.
Adrian Monk: I'll take him.
Natalie: What? What are you going to do? Adopt him?
Adrian Monk: I'll take him. I'll take him.
Tommy: Monk.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Theresa Crane: Uh, this is the last form. Just sign here. [Monk slowly begins to sign his name] It doesn't have to be perfect. [he continues] Maybe it does.
Adrian Monk: Thank you.

Quote from Adrian Monk

Natalie: So what are we doing here?
Adrian Monk: Do you remember the guy we met the other day, Daniel Carlyle? Well, that wasn't the real Daniel Carlyle. That guy wasn't a violinist at all.
Natalie: He wasn't?
Adrian Monk: Mmm-mmm. I remembered something. He said that we interrupted his rehearsal, remember?
Natalie: Hmm.
Adrian Monk: But the violin bow in his hand was loose, so he couldn't have been playing. Plus I went to the library this morning and I found this. Look. Bay City Quintet. That's the group that Daniel Carlyle plays with. And he said that he had a concert that night. But there's nothing on the schedule.
Natalie: The bow was loose?
