Adrian Monk: One more question. Just curious, about the rug.
Steve DeWitt: Which rug?
Adrian Monk: This rug. It looks brand new.
Gwen DeWitt: It is new. Steve bought it last week while I was in London. I couldn't have been more surprised. Is this about that missing girl? The poor thing. I told you not to volunteer. He thinks he can save the world single-handedly. I don't think we've met. I'm Gwen.
Natalie: Oh, what a cute dog. Where's your tail?
Gwen DeWitt: He's an Australian shepherd. They're born tailless. They're bred that way.
Natalie: That makes you special, doesn't it?

Adrian Monk: Thank you for watching her.
Anne Marie: I wish I had a dog.
Adrian Monk: Oh, oh, oh. She didn't eat?
Anne Marie: She wasn't hungry.
Adrian Monk: Well, maybe, were you waiting for me? She was probably waiting for me.
Anne Marie: I think she was.
Adrian Monk: Your aunt Natalie's out front, so she'll give you a ride home.
Anne Marie: [holding hand out] You said $5.00.
Adrian Monk: Right. Oh, you have change for a hundred?
Anne Marie: Yes.
Adrian Monk: Really?
Anne Marie: Uh-huh.
Adrian Monk: Then you won't need my five. Attitude.

Captain Stottlemeyer: Somebody tried to kill Shelby?
Lieutenant Disher: Maybe he was drunk. You know, he was just turning around.
Adrian Monk: No, no, it was deliberate. [covering Shelby's ears] He tried to run her down. He wasn't interested in me. He was definitely after Shelby.
Lieutenant Disher: [whispers] Maybe he doesn't like dogs.
Adrian Monk: How could anyone not like it?
Captain Stottlemeyer: What reason would anybody possibly have?
Adrian Monk: I don't know. I don't know, but it's got to be connected to Amanda castle. She disappeared a week and a half ago. Now, tonight, somebody tries to kill her dog. It can't be a coincidence.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Was it the guy, Steven Dewitt?

Veterinarian: [on the phone] Veterinarian hot-line. What's your emergency?
Adrian Monk: Yes, hello. I have a dog- Well, she's not really mine. Sort of adopted her, but it's complicated. You see, I'm a former police officer.
Veterinarian: Sir, is the animal sick?
Adrian Monk: Yes. Uh, yes, I think so. She isn't eating, and she, uh, she seems to be shivering.
Veterinarian: Is she panting heavily and heaving?
Adrian Monk: Yes. Yes.
Veterinarian: Uh-huh. Has she been putting on weight?
Adrian Monk: Well, yes. Yes, she has.
Veterinarian: Well, it sounds like she's whelping.
Adrian Monk: I don't understand.
Veterinarian: Well, I think she's in labor.
Adrian Monk: I don't understand.
Veterinarian: She's in labor. She's having a litter, little puppies? Baby puppies.
Adrian Monk: You mean now?
Veterinarian: It sounds like it. Sir? Are you still there? Congratulations.

Adrian Monk: Do you remember two days ago? DeWitt showed up to help look for the body. He was petting Shelby. He was patting her belly.
Natalie: He noticed she was pregnant. DeWitt had a problem. He knew as soon as we saw these tailless puppies, we'd run a DNA test.
Natalie: We'd have proof, living proof their dogs had met, which would prove he knew Amanda.
Lieutenant Disher: That's why he tried to run her over tonight.
Captain Stottlemeyer: Well, looks like we've got our smoking gun. You're just about the cutest little smoking gun in history. Look at you. Oh, the jury's gonna eat you up.
Natalie: wait a minute. I think we have more evidence.

Adrian Monk: The puppies, what do I do?
Natalie: Mr. Monk, you don't have to do anything. She knows what she's doing. Bye, Shelby. Good job.
Adrian Monk: You've a lot of explaining to do, young lady.

Adrian Monk: You're too late. She's already had the litter. What are you gonna do? Kill them all?
Steve DeWitt: I suppose I am.
Adrian Monk: But I'm a witness, so you'll have to kill me, too.
Steve DeWitt: No, no, no. No, don't move. You just stay where you are.
Adrian Monk: I don't think you're a killer. I think you loved Amanda.
Steve DeWitt: It was an accident.
Adrian Monk: I believe you.
Steve DeWitt: She fell and hit her head.
Adrian Monk: That's not murder. It's manslaughter, maybe obstruction. That's bad but... It could be a lot worse. Don't make it worse. Don't make it worse. [takes DeWitt's knife]
Steve DeWitt: It was an accident.
Adrian Monk: I know. I know it was.
Steve DeWitt: They're beautiful.
Adrian Monk: I know.

Adrian Monk: Wait. Wait. I can't do this. I'm sorry. I can't split them up. They have to stay together.
Natalie: Mr. Moink, I know it hurts, and I know you're thinking about your own family. With dogs, it's different.
Adrian Monk: It's not different. They're a family, she's the mother, they have to be together.
Natalie: Here's the thing. There are five dogs here. You can't keep them all. You're, you know, you.
Adrian Monk: I know, I know, I'm me.
Aunt Teresa: How about this? We'll take all of them.
Anne Marie: Really?
Aunt Teresa: The whole family including the mom. We have three acres, it's all fenced in. They'll love it.
Adrian Monk: Okay.
