‘Evacuation’

Season 2, Episode 24 -  Aired May 13, 2001

The family are forced to spend the night in the school gym after a toxic chemical spill, which Hal fears he caused when he went to throw away a couch. Meanwhile, Francis winds up baby-sitting when Eric arranges a "double date" of sorts.

Quote from Francis

Francis: And then Dave told me they were just studying. But they were totally having a pizza party.
Girl: You're kidding?
Francis: They came to my room and asked for napkins. It's not like I could tell them how hurt I was, 'cause you constantly got to keep up this front of being the tough guy. They have no idea who I really am. If they knew I kept a dream journal...
Girl: You do? I think that's so cool.
[Behind Francis, Dewey is interviewed on TV news with the caption "Toxic Orphan"]
Francis: Really? I do, too. I'll tell you one thing, if those guys ever got a hold of that, I'd never hear the end of it.
Girl: So? You don't have to care what they think. I don't.
Francis: Well, what about your sister?
Girl: She's an idiot.
Francis: Hey, good for you.
Girl: Anyway, people around here are freaks. Some nights, I lock myself in my room and spin my globe. And wherever I point my finger, I just pretend that's where I really live.
Francis: I do that, too.
Girl: Really?

Quote from Reese

Reese: And you'll feel the cold worse than anyone. Because, let's face it, your circulation isn't that good to begin with.

Quote from Malcolm

Malcolm: Give me my shoe.
Boy: It's right here. Come and get it.
[Malcolm struggles to reach the shoe without leaving his cot]
Boy: What's the matter? Was somebody a bad boy? [girls laugh] Does the bad boy want his shoe back?
Lois: Malcolm! Get back on the cot.
Malcolm: This kid's got my shoe.
Lois: Get back on the cot. I'll take care of this.
Boy: Is Mommy going to take care of it for you?

Quote from Francis

Eric: Hey, sorry about tonight.
Francis: Yeah, well, your plan to palm me off on a 12-year-old backfired, 'cause I actually had a really good time.
Eric: Well, good for you, Poodlehead.
Francis: You know what? I don't care about your childish taunts anymore. You can call me anything you like.
Eric: I think I'll stick with Poodlehead.
Francis: Fine.
Eric: I'm glad it doesn't bother you when I call you "Poodlehead," Poodlehead. I got to tell you, Poodlehead...
Francis: Shut up!

Quote from Hal

Capt. James: Do not set foot outside this area. Not one foot.
Hal: Uh, I would just like to get one thing clear. When we go home, you fellas are still going to be a presence in the community, right?
Capt. James: If I wasn't in uniform, I'd take a swing at you, myself.
Hal: Fair enough.

Quote from Lois

Lois: Are you telling me that I can't discipline my own child?
Soldier: Lady, we got a lot of angry people in there. I think it's best you stay out here with the other troublemakers.
Hal: They'd like us to stay inside the box.
Lois: This is outrageous. We're going to freeze to death out here.
Reese: What did we do?
Hal: Maybe Malcolm can bring us a couple blankets. Come on. [shouts in the window] Malcolm. Can you get us some blankets?
Reese: Help us out here. It's cold out here.
Malcolm: I'm sorry, I'm not supposed to leave my cot.
Lois: Don't think you won't suffer the consequences later, mister.
