‘Emancipation’

Season 3, Episode 2 -  Aired November 14, 2001

Malcolm and his Krelboyne classmates meet their new teacher, Mr. Lionel Herkabe. Meanwhile, Lois refuses to speak to the newly-emancipated Francis when he comes home from military school before heading to Alaska.

Quote from Malcolm

Mr. Herkabe: Ok. I think we're ready to show Principal Littledove what motivation can accomplish. Well done, class. You know, maybe we should just put our heads down and take a rest for a moment, shall we? [Malcolm raises his hand] Yes, 1 to the 11th?
Malcolm: Did you know I can count to a million by prime numbers?
Lloyd: I can, too!
Dabney: So can I! It's easy!
Mr. Herkabe: That's not necessary.
Malcolm: Two, three...
All: Five, seven, eleven, thirteen, seventeen, nineteen, twenty-three, twenty-nine, thirty-one...
Malcolm: Now by hundreds. 101, 211, 307... [overlapping chatter]

Quote from Malcolm

Malcolm: [to Mr. Herkabe] Boy, that's quite a show for your first week here. You were right. You can't beat the system. But you sure can break it.

Quote from Malcolm

Malcolm: [to camera] Normally I dread the first day of school. Mom's been on such a rampage about Francis it's actually a relief to be out of the house.

Quote from Lois

Hal: Honey, your son has something to say to you.
Lois: [looks past Francis] Huh! I didn't know the Henderson's painted their house. [closes door]

Quote from Lloyd

Malcolm: Don't worry about it. The only way that stupid board can have an effect on us is if we let it. Those numbers mean nothing.
Stevie: What are... you doing?
Kevin: Nothing!
Lloyd: You were studying?
Kevin: No, I wasn't. My book just fell open at this page.
Dabney: [chuckles] You know... I'm really not hungry.
Lloyd: I think I left my recess stuff in my locker. [Krelboynes scatter]

Quote from Dewey

Reese: What are you looking at?
Dewey: Francis.
Reese: He's still out there?
Dewey: Yeah, he's eating out of the bird-feeder.

Quote from Hal

Hal: He's leaving. He just wants to talk to you. Just hear him out. Lois! This has got to stop! He's going very far away and you're not gonna see him for a long time. [Hal grabs the iron] Honey, there are moments in life that you just don't get back... and I know you. If you do not deal with this now, it will haunt you for ever. [Lois continues ironing] Fine. I've lost a son but gained a baby.
