‘Emily in Wonderland’
Season 1, Episode 19 - Aired April 26, 2001
Rory gives her grandmother Emily a tour of Stars Hollow. Meanwhile, Lorelai gets to know Luke's girlfriend Rachel.
Quote from Lorelai
Rachel: That is one really not annoying kid.
Lorelai: Yes, she really is not.
Rachel: See, I might consider doing the mom thing if I could be guaranteed I'd get one just like her.
Lorelai: Oh, you can. You just have to go to Sears.
Quote from Luke
Luke: I didn't know you guys were friends.
Lorelai: We're not really friends. I don't know her that well. We're just hanging out. She seems great.
Luke: She is. She's great. She's just a lot different from you.
Lorelai: 'Cause I'm not really great?
Luke: No, you're great, just in a different way.
Lorelai: In a not really great way?
Luke: That's not what I meant. The two of you are just completely different people. Both great. But I'm just a little surprised that your different types of greatness are melding and you're comfortably great together.
Lorelai: Is this bothering you?
Luke: This conversation, yes.
Quote from Lorelai
Lorelai: Welcome, Moshira Motors, to the Independence Inn. [the translator speaks in Japanese at the same time] The dining room is right through there. And breakfast is served 6:00 to 11:30 although our chef is an amazing overachiever and she'll be happy to prepare anything you want any time of day. Now, your itinerary for the conference will be in each of your rooms. And if you have any questions at all, just please feel free to ask...
Michel: No.
Lorelai: Somebody else. Not him. Okay, so ask Roger. Roger will be happy to help you. Thanks so much.
Quote from Lorelai
Lorelai: Rune is in the lobby.
Sookie: Lorelai! Hello! I made some coffee.
Lorelai: Rune is in the lobby.
Sookie: I also made those orange-glazed muffins you like, with warm cinnamon butter.
Lorelai: Sookie, Rune is in the lobby.
Sookie: Uh-huh.
Lorelai: Why?
Sookie: Muffin's getting cold.
Lorelai: My muffin's fine. My muffin wants to know why the fruitcake's in the lobby.
Quote from Sookie
Jackson: Lorelai! These are for you.
Lorelai: For me?
Jackson: Yeah, and I also brought some of my raspberry-peach jam. I think you'll like it. Put it on ice cream.
Lorelai: Okay.
Jackson: Take a graham cracker, spread some on, add some chocolate throw it in the boiler, and you'll sing show tunes all evening.
Lorelai: Must be good jam.
Jackson: It's my way of saying thanks for helping out Rune. Thanks for helping out Rune.
Sookie: Okay, I'm doing the spoon signal.
Jackson: I didn't notice.
Sookie: I'm waving around like an idiot here.
Quote from Sookie
Lorelai: Would you mind explaining the thank-you jam?
Sookie: I was supposed to ask you something about Rune.
Lorelai: Like what?
Sookie: He just, not too long ago, lost his job.
Lorelai: Attitude problems?
Sookie: Something like that. When he lost his job, he couldn't pay his rent and so he got evicted. None of this was known to us when he came to stay with Jackson. But this is the situation. So I was thinking if he could get another job and then he could save up some money, afford his own place, and move out then I wouldn't end up stabbing him in the neck with a grapefruit spoon.
Lorelai: Ouch.
Sookie: It's gonna happen.
Quote from Lorelai
Sookie: Maybe he could just work for room and board.
Lorelai: You want him to live here?
Sookie: No. What about the old potting shed?
Lorelai: The old potting shed? Rory and I lived there when she was a baby. It has memories and little rosebud wallpaper. I don't want Boo Radley touching my rosebud wallpaper.
Quote from Lorelai
Rachel: This looks like it could be a great place.
Lorelai: Yeah, it really does. God. A little paint, some pretty curtains $150,000 of construction, and we're open for business.
Rachel: Did you always want to own an inn?
Lorelai: No, I was still dreaming of owning a red Camaro when Rory appeared on the scene.
Quote from Emily
Emily: I feel ridiculous.
Rory: You look great.
Emily: I look like a Clydesdale.
Rory: You look comfortable.
Emily: People are staring.
Rory: Because you look great.
Emily: Yes, what a shame your grandfather isn't here. He'd fall in love with me all over again.
Quote from Emily
Emily: I think we came through the storeroom.
Rory: Nope, this is it.
Emily: This is the antique store?
Rory: You have to dig, but you can find great stuff here.
Emily: This is ridiculous. No one can run a quality business like this. This place is dusty and disorganized. And you can't possibly... Oh, now that is gorgeous! Look at the woodwork. It's exquisite. I wonder if it has a mate.
Rory: Grandma, look at this. It's got, like, little flowers all over it.
Emily: It's very pretty.
Rory: Is it something special?
Emily: Do you like it?
Rory: Yeah.
Emily: Then it's something special.
