‘Why Are We Here?’

Season 1, Episode 22 -  Aired April 7, 1997

As Debra loses patience with Frank, Marie and Robert always barging into the house, she and Ray think back to the cramped apartment they lived in three years ago.

Quote from Frank

[flashback:]
Debra: It's really a great house, Frank.
Frank: Yeah, and we're right across the street. You know the three rules of real estate... Location, location, location.
Ray: Yeah, great location. Why don't I talk to Debra for a minute or two?
Frank: Okay, you go ahead. I'll just go upstairs and turn the lights off before we lock up. Help yourself to coffee and doughnuts. They're complimentary!

Quote from Debra

[flashback:]
Debra: You remember how much work it was when Ally was born? And, you know, no offense but you were you.
Ray: All right, I'll quit softball.
Debra: Look at it, Ray. Your parents living across the street is the big selling point here. Listen, I know that you don't see it now, but in time you'll come to realize what a blessing it is to have your family so close. Come on, Ray. Our two boys. Don't we wanna give them everything? Let's give them Grandma and Grandpa too. [Ray whimpers] Oh, thank you. I love you, Ray. Thank you so much. My God, we found a house. [to Frank] Guess what? We're taking it.
Frank: That's great. That's great. You won't be sorry. I'll tell you something else I just learned about this house. That plumbing can take a punch.

Quote from Marie

Frank: [enters] Hey, are my shorts dry yet?
Marie: Listen, sweetie, the pot roast... I did all I could. It didn't make it. But I brought you some ziti for your company. You can tell them that you made it.
Robert: Where do you want it Ma?
Marie: Here, right in there, sweetie. Just move things around. Oh, these potatoes are no good.
Robert: What do you mean? We love these potatoes. Look at this there's a potato for the... [feeds the dog]
Marie: No, don't give him that. I'll make him some good potatoes. [Marie and Robert exit]
Ray: [flicks Debra] Boink.
