Ally: I'm sorry I was mad at you, Daddy.
Ray: Were you mad at me? Oh. I didn't even notice.
Ally: I just want this party to be over and done with. Do you wanna go watch a movie?
Ray: Not with you. You're going to that party.
Ally: But I told you I'm not going.
Ray: Well, then what am I gonna do with this?
Ally: Oh my God! I promise I'll do lots of chores to pay for it. I'll wash your car and babysit.
Ray: That's all right. You don't have to do any of that. Just go. Go and have a good time.
Ally: Why'd you buy it?
Ray: I bought it... I bought it because... I bought it because you're a good kid and you don't ask for much, and I just want you to know that you can count on me to do stuff when it's important for you.
Ally: Thanks.
Ray: You know, I was gonna get you the dress anyway, but you made it a lot easier when you said that $250 is a lot of money.

Ally: Hey, Mom, look what Daddy bought me!
Ray: Oh, yeah, actually see it's actually... It's from both of us.
Ally: Thanks, Mom!
Debra: Yeah, honey, you're welcome.
Ally: I'm gonna go try it on. You guys are the best!
Ray: [off Debra's look] What?
Debra: Look at you after all your tough talk, you turn into a puddle of goo.
Ray: No.
Debra: Yeah. You're so worried she's gonna hate you, you just fold like a cheap tent.
Ray: No! No! I'm- I'm tough but fair. Yeah. Mainly tough.

Ally: Oh my God. Nobody else is wearing a dress.
Girl: Nice dress, Cinderella.
Peggy: Well, if it isn't Ally's dad. Congratulations, you've ruined my daughter's birthday party.
Ray: What are you talking about?
Peggy: Oh, please, don't play dumb with me. All your rabble-rousing in the dress shop?
Debra: You were rabble-rousing?
Ray: No!
Peggy: He told Megan's father all the parents should protest and refuse to buy the formal clothes. Well, you all called each other, and look what happened. [Jerry raises his fist to Ray]
Ray: Nobody called me.

Ally: We have to go home.
Debra: No, honey.
Ray: Ally, look. It doesn't matter what anybody else says. You got to go in there and have a wonderful time.
Ally: I can't believe you did this to me, Dad!
Ray: Wh- What did I do? I did something nice. I bought a dress for $250. You're goin' into that party!
Ally: No, I'm not!
Ray: Yes, you are! $250!
Ally: I don't care!
Ray: You're going into the party.
Ally: You can't make me!
Ray: Look, I'm your father. You have to do what I say!
Ally: I hate you!
Debra: Congratulations. You're a successful parent.
